A USDT payment gateway for merchants is really a set of choices hidden behind a checkout: the network customers pay on, who holds the money, how Tether becomes dollars in a bank, and what you do if an address gets frozen. Tether is the stablecoin people use most for crypto payments, yet it also faces the most regulatory friction in the US and EU. Below we compare three payment gateways that take USDT today, PayMeGate, NOWPayments and MoonPay Commerce, using the fees, networks, verification rules and terms published on their own sites, and show which kind of merchant each one suits.
Quick answer: PayMeGate ranks first for merchants who want cards and crypto at one checkout with no ID or business-document uploads at signup. It charges 1% plus provider or network fees, takes USDT on TRON, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Solana and more, and forwards crypto to your own wallet, although card payments arrive as USDC rather than USDT. NOWPayments comes second for businesses that specifically want a USDT balance, at 1% with a custody account, but bank withdrawals only work from USDT on TRON. MoonPay Commerce is third, offering non-custodial USDT on eight networks at a 2% standard fee.

What a USDT payment gateway does
USDT (Tether), launched in 2014, is a stablecoin designed to track the US dollar one-for-one. A USDT payment gateway, sometimes called a Tether payment gateway, enables businesses to accept Tether as payment without watching wallets by hand. The gateway generates a payment request with an amount, a network and a receiving address, shows the customer a QR code, detects the incoming blockchain transactions, confirms them and tells your store that the order is paid. Most USDT gateways add payment links, an API, e-commerce platforms plugins, a hosted payment interface and a dashboard to track transactions, so USDT payment processing looks much like card processing to your team.
There are two ways customers pay:
- USDT in, USDT out. The customer already holds Tether and sends it from a wallet or exchange. This is a crypto payment in the strict sense: fast, cheap on the right network, and final once confirmed.
- Card in, stablecoin out. The customer pays with Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay, a payment provider converts the payment, and the merchant receives a stablecoin. Card rules, refunds and disputes still apply to the card leg.
The payment flow matters because it decides who carries the risk. In the first model, USDT transactions are final and you receive payments directly. In the second, you get the reach of traditional payment methods, with their checks and disputes attached.
Know which one you need before comparing payment gateways, because the three services below handle the second model very differently.
Why businesses accept Tether
Merchants usually accept USDT payments for four reasons:
- Cross border payments. A customer abroad can pay in digital dollars without a card that works internationally or an expensive bank wire, which gives small merchants global reach for international payments.
- Price stability. Unlike Bitcoin or Ether, USDT maintains a stable value against the US dollar, so the price you quote is roughly the value you receive. It is not a cash equivalent in the accounting sense, but it avoids most crypto volatility.
- Lower fees. Many USDT gateways charge around 1%, against the 2–3% often quoted for card processing, and on cheap networks the blockchain fee is a few cents. Zero fees are rare once you count conversion costs.
- Speed. Blockchain transactions confirm in seconds to minutes; 0xProcessing, a gateway, cites about three seconds for USDT on TRON.
Some context helps too. Industry blogs such as Infini put USDT's market capitalisation above $187 billion in April 2026, and USDT runs on more than a dozen blockchains, so it is the stablecoin your customers are most likely to already hold. That is the main reason to add it to your payment options alongside cards.
How we chose the best USDT payment gateway
- Published fees: a transaction fee you can read before signing up, plus clarity on network fee and conversion costs.
- USDT network coverage: at least TRON (TRC-20) and Ethereum (ERC-20), the two networks most customers use.
- Verification rules: what the merchant must submit at signup, and what customers may be asked for.
- Custody and cash-out: whether funds go straight to your merchant wallet or sit in an account, and how you reach a bank account.
- Acceptable-use terms: what each provider's terms prohibit, read in full.
- Integration options: payment links, API and plugins.

1. PayMeGate: best for card and crypto checkout without document uploads
PayMeGate is a no-KYC, high-risk payment gateway for cards and crypto. Its merchant signup asks for basic account and business information but does not request identity or business-document uploads, and its crypto checkout shows the exact asset, network, amount, address, QR code and expiry, then tracks confirmation and forwards the payment to the wallet you configured.
PayMeGate fees
| Product | Fee | Minimum | What you receive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Card gateway (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Maestro, Apple Pay, Google Pay) | 1% + provider fee | $1 minimum order | USDC payout to your wallet |
| Crypto gateway (BTC, ETH, USDC, USDT, SOL and more) | 1% + network fee | Varies by method | The crypto the customer paid, forwarded to your wallet |
Minimum order amounts range from $1 to $30 depending on the payment provider. There are no monthly fees, setup costs or rolling reserves, per its pricing page.
Key features
- A unique receiving address for each transaction, which makes reconciliation simpler than a single shared address.
- Networks listed on its crypto payment gateway page include Ethereum (ERC-20), BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20), TRON (TRC-20), Solana, Arbitrum and Avalanche, with tokens including USDT and USDC.
- Mass payouts split across up to 19 wallets, useful for treasury operations or paying partners.
- The buyer covers blockchain costs by default, and this is configurable.
- Payment links, a merchant API, and WHMCS and WooCommerce plugins.
Best for
High-risk and cross-border merchants whose business needs one checkout for cards and USDT, with funds landing in a wallet they control rather than a platform balance.
Things to consider
- Card payments settle as USDC, not USDT. If your treasury runs on Tether, you will need to swap USDC to USDT yourself or accept USDT only from crypto-paying customers.
- PayMeGate provides software; independent third-party providers process payments. Its FAQ says customers may need instant ID verification by mobile camera, and some providers allow smaller orders without it, so customer checks depend on the payment method.
- Card-funded orders stay subject to provider refund and dispute rules; direct on-chain payments are generally irreversible once confirmed.
- PayMeGate is not a licensed bank or money transmitter, and document-light onboarding does not mean rules-free use: its terms allow it to restrict prohibited use.
2. NOWPayments: best for a dedicated USDT account and payouts
NOWPayments is a large crypto payment gateway that lists 350+ supported currencies. Its supported coins list shows USDT on TRON (USDTTRC20), Ethereum (USDTERC20), BNB Smart Chain (USDTBSC), Solana (USDTSOL) and Polygon (USDTMATIC).
NOWPayments fees
| Item | Published terms |
|---|---|
| Service fee | 1% |
| Stablecoin payments | 30+ stablecoins from 1%; as low as 0.3% through custom offers on request |
| Network fees | Charged by the blockchain, vary by network |
| Fiat on-ramp | Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Revolut Pay; 25+ fiat currencies in 175+ countries; activation on request |
Key features
- A custody account where you can accumulate funds, convert currencies and withdraw in larger batches to save on fees.
- An on-ramp that lets customers deposit up to €700 without extensive KYC and advertises "minimal KYB" for merchants.
- Zero-fee mass payouts, payment buttons and crypto subscriptions.
Best for
Merchants who want to hold and pay out in USDT, and who are comfortable using TRON as their main network.
Things to consider
- Its terms (last updated 31 August 2026) say fiat withdrawal to a bank is available only for balances in USDT on TRON; other balances are converted first, with a commission.
- The same terms let its third-party providers request KYB verification at their discretion.
- They prohibit content that infringes copyright and "any business that we believe poses elevated financial risk", so check eligibility before you integrate.
3. MoonPay Commerce: best for non-custodial USDT on many networks
MoonPay Commerce, formerly Helio, was acquired by MoonPay in 2025. It describes itself as a technology provider that does not custody funds: buyers pay merchants directly, peer to peer, on the blockchain. Its public currency list shows USDT on Base, TRON, Solana, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain and TON, plus USDT0 on Plasma.
MoonPay Commerce fees
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Standard transaction fee | 2% |
| HelioX (premium tier) | 1% |
| High-risk platforms | Minimum 2% |
| Swaps | 0.25% |
| Auto-offramp (fiat settlement) | 0.50% |
Key features
- Non-custodial, direct payments to your wallet.
- Optional auto conversion: it can automatically convert incoming crypto assets to USD, EUR or GBP in supported regions.
- A "Pay with card" option appears in the checkout shown on its product page; confirm card availability for your region and business type with its team.
- Plugins including a Shopify integration for Solana Pay.
Best for
Merchants who want to accept USDT on multiple blockchain networks with no intermediary holding funds.
Things to consider
- It is the most expensive of the three at standard pricing, and high-risk platforms pay at least 2%.
- Its FAQ says payments cannot be reversed or reclaimed by MoonPay, so refunds are your responsibility.
- Its terms (effective 1 October 2025) allow it to terminate access for fraudulent or illegal use, and it runs a KYC/AML programme.

Choosing a USDT network
Every gateway here supports USDT on more than one chain, and the network decides your transaction costs and speed more than the gateway does.
- TRON (TRC-20) is the most common network for USDT payments and usually the cheapest for customers, which is why NOWPayments ties bank withdrawals to it. Some gateways quote fees under $0.01 per transfer on TRON, though costs vary.
- Ethereum (ERC-20) has the deepest liquidity but the highest gas fees, so it suits larger B2B invoices more than small orders.
- BNB Smart Chain, Solana and Polygon are cheap and fast, and popular with customers who hold USDT on exchanges.
- TON matters if your customers pay from Telegram wallets.
Whatever you support, make the network impossible to miss at checkout. USDT sent on the wrong network to your wallet address is a common and expensive support problem. A gateway that generates a unique address per payment and shows the network next to the QR code solves most of it.
Fees, settlement and cash flow
The published percentage is only part of what a USDT payment costs. Add the network fee (who pays it, you or the customer), any conversion or swap fee, and the cost of moving USDT to a bank account. A fair comparison on a $100 order:
- PayMeGate: 1% platform fee, plus blockchain costs, which the buyer pays by default for crypto; card orders add a provider fee and arrive as USDC.
- NOWPayments: 1% service fee, plus blockchain fees and a commission if you convert to USDT TRC20 for a bank withdrawal.
- MoonPay Commerce: 2%, plus 0.50% if you use auto-offramp to fiat.
None of the three offers instant settlement to a bank; instant settlement here means crypto arriving in your wallet after confirmation. Because USDT maintains a dollar peg, you avoid most of the price volatility of Bitcoin or Ether, but you still carry issuer and freeze risk while you hold it. Many merchants sweep balances into fiat currency or a second stablecoin on a schedule rather than holding large amounts in one hot wallet with private keys on a server.
How to integrate USDT payments and start accepting USDT payments
- Pick the network or networks you will accept, based on where your buyers hold USDT.
- Set up your business wallet and keep its private keys offline; with PayMeGate and MoonPay Commerce, payments go straight to it.
- Choose the integration: payment links to create payment requests for invoices and social sales, a plugin for WooCommerce or WHMCS, or the API for custom checkouts.
- Set the payment configuration: amount in US dollars, accepted networks, who pays blockchain costs, and how long a payment request stays valid.
- Handle webhooks so the order is marked paid only after the payment confirmation arrives, and handle underpayments and late payments.
- Test on small amounts on each network before you go live.

Risks and compliance when you accept Tether
Tether can freeze USDT. The issuer can blacklist addresses, and funds on a frozen address cannot be moved. Industry sources such as 0xProcessing put the total frozen at more than $4.4 billion across 2,300+ cases. Screening incoming payments with transaction monitoring tools, and moving funds on promptly, reduces the chance of receiving tainted coins.
US status. USDT is not illegal to hold or accept in the US, but it is not issued by a US-regulated issuer. The GENIUS Act, signed in July 2025, created a federal framework for payment stablecoins, and Tether launched a separate US token, USAT, on 27 January 2026, issued through Anchorage Digital Bank. US merchants should watch how the rules apply to USDT as the law is implemented, and check how their bank treats deposits that came from USDT.
EU status. Tether did not seek authorisation under the EU's MiCA rules, and major exchanges such as Coinbase, Crypto.com and Binance removed USDT for European users by March 2025. Holding or receiving USDT is not banned, but converting it inside the EU is harder, which matters if you sell to European customers.
Your obligations stay with you. A payment gateway does not take over your anti-money-laundering duties, sanctions screening or local regulations. Card-funded orders follow card-network rules, including chargebacks and prohibited-business lists, and a gateway cannot make an unlawful business lawful. In the US, the IRS treats digital assets as property, so receiving and converting USDT can create taxable events and records you must keep. Speak to an accountant and a lawyer who know your market.
Refunds are manual. On-chain USDT payments are final. Decide how you will refund customers, in USDT or another way, and put it in your terms.
Frequently asked questions
How do I receive USDT payments?
Sign up with a USDT payment gateway, connect a wallet address, choose the networks you accept and add a checkout, payment link or plugin to your site. The gateway generates a payment request for each order and confirms it on-chain.
What payment gateway can accept USDT payments?
PayMeGate, NOWPayments and MoonPay Commerce all accept USDT. PayMeGate lists TRC-20, ERC-20, BEP-20 and Solana among its networks, NOWPayments lists five USDT networks and MoonPay Commerce lists eight.
Is USDT legal in the USA?
Holding and accepting USDT is not illegal in the US, but USDT is not issued by a US-regulated issuer. Tether launched USAT in January 2026 for the US market under the GENIUS Act framework.
Can I accept payments in crypto?
Yes. Any business can accept crypto payments, including USDT and other digital currencies, through a gateway or a wallet, but you remain responsible for tax, AML and consumer rules in your country.
What is the best USDT network?
For most small payments, TRON (TRC-20) is the cheapest and most widely used. Ethereum suits large invoices, and Solana, BNB Smart Chain and Polygon are low-cost alternatives.
What is the cheapest network to transfer USDT?
TRON, Solana, BNB Smart Chain and Polygon usually cost a few cents or less per transfer, while Ethereum is typically the most expensive. Fees change with network demand.
Can I withdraw USDT to my bank account?
Yes, through an off-ramp or exchange. NOWPayments' fiat withdrawal works only from USDT on TRON, and MoonPay Commerce offers auto-offramp to USD, EUR or GBP for 0.50% in supported regions.
Is there a card to crypto payment gateway that doesn't require KYC?
PayMeGate does not ask merchants for ID or business-document uploads at signup, but customers may need ID verification depending on the payment method and provider. No card flow is fully free of checks.
Do I need a business account to accept USDT?
You need a merchant account with the gateway, and ideally a business account at a bank or exchange for cashing out, rather than a personal account, so that your records and tax reporting stay clean. PayMeGate does not ask for business documents at signup, but your bank or off-ramp may.
What merchants accept USDT?
Online shops, software and digital-goods sellers, freelancers, B2B exporters and many high-risk merchants accept USDT, usually through a crypto payment gateway rather than a raw wallet address.
Which wallet is best to receive USDT?
A self-custody wallet that supports every network you accept, with private keys you control and a backup kept offline. Hardware wallets suit larger balances.
Are USDT payments reversible?
No. Once confirmed on-chain, a USDT payment cannot be reversed by the gateway or the network. Card-funded orders are different, because the card leg can still be disputed.
What is a merchant payment gateway?
It is the payment infrastructure that lets a business accept customer payments online, routes them for processing and tells the store when an order is paid. For cryptocurrency payments, the gateway also watches the blockchain and confirms each transfer.
Which is the best crypto payment gateway for businesses?
The best crypto payment gateway depends on your model: PayMeGate for card and crypto checkout with no document uploads, NOWPayments for USDT custody and payouts, and MoonPay Commerce for non-custodial payments on many networks.
Final verdict
Pick the USDT gateway that fits how your buyers pay and how you cash out. Every option here accepts USDT; they differ on cards, custody and off-ramps. PayMeGate leads for merchants who want Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and USDT at one checkout, no ID or business-document uploads at signup and payouts straight to their own wallet, provided USDC settlement for card orders is acceptable. NOWPayments fits businesses that want to hold and pay out USDT and can accept bank withdrawals from TRON only, while MoonPay Commerce fits merchants who want non-custodial USDT across the most networks and will pay higher fees for it. Check PayMeGate pricing, see how its high-risk payment gateway and no-KYC payment gateway work, and start with a small test order.
